TITONI Airmaster 21 Jewels TITOFLEX (1955)

One of my Swiss 50's watches. The TITONI Airmaster 21 Jewels TITOFLEX. With a diameter of 35mm a nice modest dress watch. Just love the dial and the art deco like font they used as hour markers. Notice the zirconia just above the 6 o'clock position. Trademark of TITONI watches you can see on a lot of their vintage models.

The watch is powered by the manual wound ETA 1080 movement and as the caseback shows, it is waterproof, antimagnetic and has an incabloc shock system. All stainless steel case. Reference 246- 81. Oh, and of course, TITOFLEX .....

TITONI TITOFLEX

On a lot of vintage TITONI watches there is TITOFLEX mentioned on the dial. Well, TITONI reworks every raw movement in an 'in-house' process. The company uses high quality hairsprings for the balance which are called 'TITOFLEX'.

TITONI Airmaster

The Airmaster is a model line of TITONI which is stil in their current collection. Although the name would suggest it being a pilot's watch (Master of the Air) it refers to the air compressed case TITONI used and thus the watch being waterproof.

Indonesian TITONI Airmaster ad

TITONI was very active in China and South East Asia and advertised for their TITONI Airmaster over there.

They emphasized the latest Swiss innovations being in this watch among which the unbreakable mainspring called TITOFLEX.

And TITONI called upon their customers to look out for the zirkonia as is clearly visible in this ad.

Perhaps the zirconia for TITONI was some sort of  protection against copy cats who produced fake watches?
